Traditional Crowns & Bridges
Two of the most basic restorations we use are called crowns and bridges. A crown can be used to fix a tooth that has become decayed or damaged due to injury. Sometimes referred to as a “cap,” it simply slips over your tooth to restore its lost structure and appearance.
If you have a few missing teeth in a row, a bridge can help fill in the gap. It works by attaching a prosthetic (or “pontic”) tooth to crowns on two adjacent teeth to literally bridge the gap between them.
Both restorations are very reliable, and you can usually get them in as little as two visits.
Tooth-Colored Fillings/Direct Bonding
If you have a tooth that has a small cavity or chips and cracks, they can quickly be fixed using a composite resin. This resin is able to restore your tooth’s strength just like a metal filling, and can be specially shaded to match the rest of your teeth so that it blends in seamlessly. Also, compared to a metal filling, it requires much less of your enamel to be removed while it is being placed, which will significantly increase the longevity of your repaired tooth.
Full & Partial Dentures
Many people have the impression that dentures are uncomfortable, unruly, and look completely fake. Thankfully, modern-day dentures have advanced quite a bit and now provide one of the quickest and most natural-looking tooth replacement solutions available.
For people missing teeth throughout their mouth, partial dentures can fill in the gaps like the missing piece of a puzzle. They are usually held in place with metal clasps and can be easily removed for both storage and cleaning.
If a person is missing an entire arch of teeth, full dentures can replace it and restore their smile’s look and function. They are usually held in place using natural suction or denture adhesive and are custom made to assure a patient always gets their ideal look and fit.
Root canals are used to treat teeth that have become so infected/injured that the sensitive nerve has been damaged. They have garnered a very dubious reputation over the years, but they are actually extremely useful. They are able to save teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted. Thanks to modern day dentistry and our sedation techniques, the procedure itself is actually quite painless and is one of the best ways to relieve the most severe dental pain.
Our main goal is always to preserve your natural teeth, but that is not always possible. Sometimes a tooth may be so damaged that it cannot be restored, or in the case of children, a baby tooth may need to be removed to make room for an erupting permanent tooth. In any case, we can take care of your extraction with a gentle touch, and thanks to sedation and local anesthetic, we often remove a tooth before most patients even know we have begun!
Wisdom Tooth Extractions
We can perform wisdom tooth extractions right in our office. With younger patients, we will always keep an eye on their wisdom teeth so we can remove them before they cause any problems. If you are starting to feel pain in the area of your wisdom teeth or your other teeth are starting to shift, it may be time for them to be removed, so be sure to come see us soon so we can take care of them.
